Borsh
Succulent and former national dish of Ukraine, but common in many Slavic countries and Central Europe, the borsch is a hearty soup of red delicious flavor, attractive color which is determined by the beet, the main ingredient which is a cornerstone of borsch in its many versions. A very hearty dish, (so much that was once worn by warriors Ukrainian Cossacks and the belief that the pot made them strong), which provides, along with the beets, the addition of other ingredients that, of course, may change according to the local cuisine as well as personal taste: beans, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, potatoes, onions and tomatoes, mushrooms and various types of meat are the usual additional ingredients that make this dish a unique flavor and vitamins. |
