Santa Maria del Mar
Built between 1329 and 1383, during the mercantile and maritime pre-eminence of Catalonia, Santa Maria del Mar is an imposing church located in the Ribera district of Barcelona and is the most emblematic example of Catalan Gothic and pure. Rich in history, the church is without a doubt a must for lovers of art, history and culture and for those who go to visit one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. From the outside, the building has a massive appearance and compact, making it impossible to guess what might be the inside, which, contrary to appearance, expresses light and spaciousness. Remarkable is that the smooth-walled austerity damage to the environment, combined with the clean design of octagonal columns, whose ribs terminate at the level of capitals instead of to the floor, and the fact that all arcs reach the same height. |
