Oliebollen
Known and appreciated in Belgium as well as in the Netherlands, the oliebollen (oliebol the singular) are delicious sweets of the culinary tradition of the Netherlands and they are typically consumed in the New Year's Eve and during the fairs. Often translated as Dutch Doughnuts in English, the oliebollen are made with a yeast dough with flour and eggs, sometimes with raisins, candied orange peel and apples. The mixture, after being risen for about an hour, is collected with a spoonful of ice cream and thrown into boiling oil, and finally, after frying are ricpoerti with icing sugar. A unique delicacy for those who love sweet flavors and intense. |
