Viareggio is the most important bathing resort on the Tuscan coast with a 10 km. long beach and more than 100 bathing establishments, offering visitors a wide choice for relaxation and entertainment. Moreover, as if that wasn't enough, you will be able to find every kind of attractions for all ages on Viareggio beach, if you are going to spend an amusing summer.
One millenium ago, the territory on which Viareggio lies today was covered by the sea and the hinterland was formed by big and vast marshes. In about 1460 the inhabitants of Lucca, after various quarrels with the Pisans, decided to reclaim the marshes around the coast, so that they conquered a secure landing place for both the import and the commerce. But, nowadays, the town is privileged touristic destination prefered by every kind of tourists of all ages coming from everywhere in the world, because of its beauties in an eternal cheerful and lively atmosphere. |
