The Cathedral
People who arrive to Piazza del Duomo for the first time are attracted by the Cathedral beauty. Thanks to its particular structure, it represents a great example of religious architecture of the Maremma and it's one of the most important monument of the Peninsula. The cathedral dates back to the middle of the XIIth century and it's dedicate to St Cerbone, historical figure who had considerably contributed for the Massa history; his life is illustrated on the lintel facade; you can also notice the white marble Sepulchral Ark very rich in pictures of the main Saint's life events, too. The cathedral, in Romanesque style, keeps some of the most important workarts such as the stained-glass window realized in 1300 representing the Redeemer in Glory and St Cerbone's history; inside, you can notice the important the Baptismal Font and some columns surmounted by figures. |
