The Priamar
Built in 1542 at the behest of the Republic of Genoa, after the defeat inflicted upon the latter to the city of Savona, the fortress was built to control the Sabaudian enemy and the local population who increasingly prone to rebellions in the obvious attempt to free themselves from yoke imposed by the Genoese. It's just here that Giuseppe Mazzini was imprisoned, between 1830 and 1831, in a cell that can still be visited; just during this imprisonment he conceived the revolutionary Young Italy. Rich in history, today the fortress is worth a visit for several reasons: in addition to the museum which is located on the ground floor of the Palazzo della Loggia, is also an outdoor theater that hosts various performances. |
