The old town centre
The name of the town came from an imposing boulder situated in the east part of the hostoric centre, where a Roman settlement had been built in order to prevent Saracen attacks.
Pietra Ligure was allied with Genoa in the past. Half of this township had been rebuilt after the II World War since the bombings destroied it, and, nowadays it's one of the main touristic destinations of the whole Riviera. Moreover, for the culture-lovers, there's a lot of buildings that can be visited: the St Nicolo's parish church, the other parish church of Nostra Signora del Soccorso, the Oratorio dei Bianchi (Oratory of the Whites). When you walk along this ancient village, you'll have the feeling to go back in time because of the mediaeval buildings which certainly deserve to be visited. Of course, here there are also several comfortable touristic services. |
