The Church of St. John (Chiesa di San Giovanni)
The basilica of St. John is surely one of the most beautiful church in Liguria. It was built in 1619 and arises on the mediaeval Finale's pieve. The facade, rich in artistic emblems and windows, it's between two steeples and, the inner is characterised by a great harmony and simplicity, where the Baroque style is softened by the classic tradition. There are three aisles and, inside there are the coupled columns, the polycrome marble altar, the tabernacle with spiral colums and, at the pallium sides, there are two angel's faces. The Sancta Sanctorum was decorated with high relief angels and flowers, the framing to the frescos which the church is rich in. Amongst the twelve Chapels, we must remember the St Anna's church, Immacolata concezione's one, St Peter's one, St Andrew's one, St Joseph and the Guardian Angel's one, the Crucifix' one and the St Antony's one. |
