The Arch of Constantine
Located not far from the Colosseum, the Arch of Constantine is now a monument of great historical importance: erected to commemorate Constantine I's victory over Maxentius, now can be considered a veritable museum of Roman sculpture. Along with the Arch of Titus and the Arch of Septimius Severus, is one of the triumphal arches in Rome survived to this day. While the Arch marks the rise of the Christian power, the other marks the beginning of a deep imperial decadence. Even the Arch of Constantine, like all other historical tours of Rome, is a must for those who spend holidays in this beautiful city. |
