Pupusas
With a fragrant aroma and taste delicious with many different ingredients that make them up, the pupusas are a typical dish of El Salvador's culinary tradition that can be sampled on several occasions. A mixture of corn flour or rice, stuffed with red beans boiled first then ground, chicharon and good local cheese (queso or sometimes quesillo) make pupusas a real delicacy. The mixture is stuffed before being cooked on a plate greased with sunflower seed oil before being served at the table with a side of cabbage marinated in vinegar, onion and spicy tomato sauce. Characteristics of Salvador, pupusas are a dish that draws on the culinary traditions of the Mayan. |
