 Basilica of Our Lady of Peace
Situated in Yamoussoukro, the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace is one of the largest places of worship of Christianity and is a must for the faithful who go to visit the capital of Côte d'Ivoire. Commissioned by the country's first president, Félix Houphouët-Boigny, and modeled on the Basilica of San Pietro, the basilica is a huge national pride and worth visiting for the beautiful appearance, both for the inner features that distinguished: a beautiful mosaic glass, imported from France, depicting Jesus and the apostles, a crib in ebony of exquisite workmanship and a cross of gold weighing 13 kilograms and more make the church truly remarkable. Not to be missed is undoubtedly the statue of the Madonna, carved by an inmate, is able to charm visitors with facial expression that seems to change depending on where it is admired. Inserted in a beautiful park cared English, with interiors that have characteristics of African style, the basilica is worth visiting even for lovers of art and culture. |
